From 28 December 2012, the failure to lodge on time penalty has increased by 55%, from $110 per penalty unit to $170 per unit.
According to the Australian Taxataion Office (ATO), 465 individuals and companies were convicted for tax and superannuation criminal offences resulting in over $1.56 million in fines and penalties in the last quarter.
On 22 November 2012, Superannuation Laws Amendment (Capital Gains Tax Relief and Other Efficiency Measures) Bill 2012 and the Superannuation Auditor Registration Imposition Bill 2012 were passed by the Senate without amendment.
