Since The Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) was introduced for tertiary education in Australia, it has charged an "interest rate" on 1 June each year.

A few months ago I took up an offer for an Accounting Doctoral Scholarship with the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). Had a very interesting question come up in last week's lecture on equity accounting about companies exerting strong significant influence but not having control of another company. Strong significant influence could occur when say Company A owns 49.9% but obviously don’t have control of the voting power of Company B.
